The Rangers are a mature guild of gamers who play various Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) offering expertise, fellowship and fun to all. The Rangers are closely tied to the Eternal Conclave(EC), a multi game community. To understand the Rangers is to also understand the EC and its origins.
Eternal Conclave was started as an Everquest guild on the Erolisi Mar server by Jim Nightingale ("Fizzle"). Jim had always intended for the EC to be a multi gaming guild and for it to be a name recognized amongst gamers all over the MMORPG scene. They expanded to Asheron's Call 1. They were one of AC's first guilds on the Harvestgain server (HG) after retail.
At one stage the EC were the highest ranked guild on HG (R7). It was also the largest guild on all servers in the very early days with an incredible 850 members way before the advent of xp chains, leadership mules and even swearing mules into your monarchy changed the way allegiances were viewed by many. They also where the first Rank 8 guild in AC and boasted 1400 members at their peak. This came to an end when XP chains and cross server mule swaps became the norm.
Jim left and another jumped into the chair and took on the Fizzle role -- in deep secrecy I may add. Most people never noticed the change! Adam was the second Fizzle and he continued to lead the EC to great success. Razzor followed after Adam; Gossip after Razzor (Gossip and Razzor are now married in real life. A great AC love story!) Eventually Jam-Fear, one of the original crew, took over as monarch.
The Rangers of Dereth were founded on the Wintersebb server by the former EC Euro officer, "Ced" (Darren Moore), when the WE server opened in January 2001. Ced had wanted to build on his experience with the EC and follow in their footsteps by building a guild with strong principles and a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The Rangers never had XP chains but did gain the elusive Rank 9 (R9), as well as boasting 3000 members at its peak.
In December 2002, the Huns, led by "Middy" (Midnight Phantom/Braveheart), merged with the Rangers. Most of the Huns were trying AC2 but some came back to us. Cuttlery, Unique, Graccus, and Sung Fang are just a few of the former Huns who still play Asheron's Call 1.
Ced stepped down as monarch in November 2003, just two months short of three years as honoured leader to set in place some real life changes. He can still be found in Dereth from time to time. Leadership passed to Striderlongshanks who arranged a second merger, with Servants of M'lady.
Under Strider's leadership, the Rangers are still going strong in Dereth. We maintain an immaculate reputation on the server, and stand as a shining example of Ced's belief that "old school" guilds still have a place in AC.
This means a family-style atmosphere where you can rely on each other to help share your gaming experience and encourage you in your adventures. The Rangers offer friendship, expertise, fellowship and fun to all, plus we and encourage guild quests, hunts and events that are open to all our friends, from whichever clan they call home.
